The Doctor and his party arrive within the Aztec tomb of Yetaxa. When Barbara finds one of the treasures within the tomb particularly attractive, she slips it on. A trap door within the tomb allows her, as well as the Doctor and the others, to leave the tomb, but it does not allow them to reenter, effectively cutting them off from the TARDIS. Autloc sees Barbara wearing the artifact of Yetaxa and believes her to be his reincarnation, and Ian, Susan, and the Doctor to be Yetaxa's servants. Tlotoxl, on the other hand, begins to doubt whether Barbara is truly Yetaxa and begins to set traps for the TARDIS crew. Meanwhile, the Doctor must discover a way back into the tomb to reach the TARDIS.
